Kent Tate: Prairie Grizzly's Peneplain Preview - Single Channel movie. Moving Images & Music - Kent Tate 10:00
"Prairie Grizzly’s Peneplain” is a meditation on various natural and manufactured landscapes in the Canadian Prairies. This region is part of an ancient Precambrian seabed rebounding from the last Ice Age which once had a dynamic range of wildlife, plants, and wetlands supporting various ancient cultures that flourished here for millennia.
Up until the late 1800‘s the bears thrived until they were forced to leave at the turn of the 20th Century. The bears that managed to migrate further west to the Rocky Mountains faced a difficult transition, although they have managed to survive in their new homes. Along with the plains buffalo, the have become a presence in the past, a story from an other era.
Today this is a region where the interactions of the natural and manufactured world are in the midst of the "Anthropocene period" and the "Holocene extinction. An tumultuous age in which everything is being transformed into something we may, or may not yet imagine.
